Down Syndrome Resource Foundation

There are well-known disparities in the health of black children in the United States. One of the most well-known is the disproportionate number of black children with Down syndrome.
As of 2010, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) reports that one in every 733 live births in the United States is a child with Down syndrome. However, for black children, the NDSS reports that the number is one in every 444 live births. This means that black children are born with Down syndrome at a rate that is nearly 60% higher than the rate for all other children.
There is no one definitive answer as to why this disparity exists. However, research suggests that a combination of genetic, medical, and socio-economic factors may play a role.

End Childhood Cancer

The rate of childhood cancer in America is unfortunately high when compared to other developed countries. In fact, America ranks as the #1 country for Childhood Cancer according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. This is a troubling statistic, as it suggest that something in the American environment may be causing an increased rate of cancer in children.
There are many possible explanations for this discrepancy, but further research is needed to determine the root cause. In the meantime, it is important to continue to monitor the rate of childhood cancer in America and work to find ways to reduce it.

Turner Syndrome

Turner syndrome is a rare chromosomal condition that affects only girls. The most common symptom of Turner syndrome is short stature, which is usually caused by a lack of growth hormone. Turner syndrome can also cause a variety of other health problems, including heart defects, kidney problems, and hearing loss.
There is no cure for Turner syndrome, but treatment can help manage the symptoms. With proper medical care, girls with Turner syndrome can live healthy and productive lives.
